Imran Khan, former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, has said that “thieves” have taken over the country and they are no longer being helped in corruption cases under “NRO-II”.

On Friday, former prime minister Imran Khan addressed a convention of women in Islamabad, where he said he was waging a “jihad” for the country’s “real freedom” in order to achieve a future “better than present.”

Imran said that without the rule of law, societies are destroyed. He added that thieves have taken over the country every day.

Imran suggested that poor individuals should be freed from jail if powerful people cannot be brought under legislation. He said that Zardari and Sharif, for instance, are present in poor nations where there is no governance, in addition to having power.

He also chaired a meeting of PTI’s senators in Islamabad, at which he expressed concerns about the NAB amendments.

After the NAB law was amended, the accountability courts, where once the most powerful people stood trial, began returning corruption references to the NAB chairman as the accused person can no longer be tried because the courts lack pecuniary jurisdiction in the case.

Imran said at the meeting that the current rulers have demeaned the accountability system by giving themselves NRO-II in corruption cases worth 1,100 billion rupees.

He claimed that the economy collapsed after he was ousted through a vote of no confidence.

Imran Khan said uncertainty is a “deadly poison” for the economy, which can be neutralised only with the announcement of early elections. Millions of Pakistanis are suffering from floods while “the crime minister and other ministers are wasting the nation’s money on luxury trips”, he said.

Imran urged the party leaders to be prepared for the imminent protest call, saying his struggle for ‘real freedom’ had entered the decisive phase. Paraphrase: Imran said his struggle for ‘real freedom’ had entered the decisive phase, and he would soon make an invitation for protest.
