Nawaz was declared an absconder in November 2020 and warrants for his arrest were issued in a illegal plot allotment case in Lahore district accountability court.

Nawaz Sharif, former prime minister of Pakistan and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), today asked an accountability court in Lahore to grant him an acquittal in a corruption case, under a new law.

The chief of the Pakistan Muslim League—who is currently in London on medical leave—has filed an appeal against the court decision declaring him a declared offender in the illegal plot allotment case.

It was argued that the NAB Amendment Act does not empower the anti-corruption body to pursue cases costing less than Rs500 million, and that corruption charges of Rs130 million have been levied against the petitioner.

Three people accused in the Accountability Court have already been acquitted.

In November 2020, an accountability court in Lahore declared Nawaz an absconder and issued non-bailable warrants for his arrest in a illegal plot allotment case.
