Corruption is dishonesty or duplicity taken by a person or an organization just for personal gain. It is as old as man. A society void of law and order is a corrupt society. Corruption is a world wild phenomenon but it is alarming in underdeveloped countries like Pakistan.

Corruption is an umbrella term. It is common in all affairs of life. It includes many activities; bribery, fraud, nepotism( favoritism for relatives and friends ), jobbery and acceptance of gratification, etc.

It starts from small ranges between a small group of people for small money or other things but it leads towards large scale over time and affects the government. Corrupt people do not follow laws and forget morality. They just think about their gain and they don’t hesitate to kill someone for their benefit.

Corruption is in every sector whether they are public or private. Public corruption includes political corruption, police corruption, judicial corruption, corruption in the health care center, and educational corruption.

Political corruption is the abuse of power by a selected government. The illegal use of a politician’s authority for personal gain is a global form of political corruption. The politicians do such things to get money. Usually, they involve in big crimes. Mostly the feudal people are very corrupt.

Police corruption is the specific form of misconduct of police. Police do corruption as it is their right. They hide the crimes of the criminal just for some personal gain; money, exchange of gifts, sexual need, for political purposes, and also for entertainment. In Pakistan, it is known as “Bakhshish”.

There are many causes of corruption i.e. ignorance, increase prices of commodities, lack of education, lack of employment, many evil customs and traditions ( waste money on marriages), the modern age of fashion; it demands money and fixed income, etc. To fulfill these desires, man does corruption.

The government should take a solid step to root out the corruption. There should be an active and effective anti-corruption department. The public should be honest.

To off pen, I would emphatically say that it is the duty of youth to war against corruption because they are nation builders and leaders of tomorrow.
