From the very beginning of life, a person has a purpose. As a person gets older, he thinks about the purpose in life. Every human has a different purpose in life. Some purposes are set by religion and some by society. For example in Islam, the main and ultimate objective of man is to seek the pleasure of Allah by living according to the divine guidelines as stated by the Prophet ( P.B.U.H) and in the Quran. According to the book of Allah (Quran), the whole purpose of man’s creation is the worship of Allah. As stated in the Quran: “I only created jinn and man to worship Me”.

But in Hinduism, the purpose of life is different as their main purpose of life is to achieve four aims, called Purusharthas. These are dharma, kama, artha, moksha. Dharma is righteousness and morality, kama is a sensual pleasure or love, whereas artha is wealth and moksha is liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Hindus spend their whole lives for these purposes.

But in atheism, they believe that no God or Supreme Being exists, and neither the universe nor its inhabitants were created by such a Being because atheists reject the supernatural explanations for the existence of life. According to atheists, there is no God-given purpose in life.

Here a question arises whether the purpose of life is only the worship of God to gain His pleasure or to be loved or morality.

The question can be answered in such a way that a human sets his purpose in life. For example, if the purpose of human life is to become a doctor or engineer, then he will strive for the same. But in our society, the purpose of man’s life is not fulfilled unless he carries with him both, religion and the world. According to you what is the purpose of life?

(The service of mankind is the ultimate purpose of our life. Taking up different professions is not an end in itself but a means to an end.)
