School Education and Literacy Department (SELD) start the new cadre of early child teacher (ECT), which is equivalent to (BPS-15) in 2018.Written test of ECT was conducted by third party (IBA), through proper merit these teachers were appointed in 2018. Furthermore, this test is very hard and transparent, and it is conducted by IBA. Moreover, IBA is a well reputed and well known organization.ECT cadre is specially designed for female teachers only.
Job related training is given to ECT after they have joined their school. The purpose of these training is to train teacher according to their jobs. Early child teachers are responsible for caring for and educating young children the areas of study within this career focus on both the cognitive and social development which includes various activities that engage students’ abilities to flourish. Early child teachers are responsible for giving holistic development to children. That is, Cognitive development, affective development, psychomotor development. Cognitive development refers to mind, Affective development refers to heart, and psychomotor development refers to hand.
After recruitment ECTs faces many difficulties because neither these service structure was clarified nor they were provided with basic facilities. ECTs are struggling from date of appointment till today about rights. These teachers are not provided with any kit and necessary facilities. When the regularization campaign started, no organization raised their voice for them in the beginning but only their JEST brothers helped them a lot and gave them peace of mind. ECT and JEST are deprived of their rights. Male and female IBA passed teachers gathered at Karachi press club to record their protest for confirmation of jobs.
After a lot of long struggle and hardships, painful process faced by JEST and ECTs.ECT and JEST were regularized by Sindh government in March 2022.This step of Sindh government is worthy of appreciation in civil society. This is highly appreciated in society.
ECTA (EARLY CHILD TEACHERS ASSOCIATION) is association for early child teachers. We collaborate for the rights of ECT.ECTA established on 8 February 2023 in Sukkur in Government (MPL) BOYS HIGH SCHOOL SUKKUR. All ECTs of all districts of Sindh participated in ECTA, including Sukkur, Karachi, Hyderabad, Ghotki, Tharparkar, Tando Allah year, Dadu, Sajawal, Larkana, khairpur, kamber, Shahdadkot, Badin, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazir Abad. In all these districts, ECTs are appointed.
ECTs are demanding for clear service structure, time scale equal to HST, ECT allowance, ECT class facilities and kits, equal share of promotion in HST, and HM, and develop clear service structure for this new cadre. Furthermore, the aims and objectives of ECTA are to protect and gain the rights of ECT and to high light of issues faced by ECT teachers.
Overall, there is no clear service structure for ECT.A teacher is the backbone of the society because he/she imparts knowledge and education and builds up the future generation. He shapes and carves out the students, who are the builder of tomorrow and are the future hopes of our nation. If a teacher feel financial insecurities how can he/she perform his/her duty with full concentration.
We hope that higher authorities will pay attention to these problem and crises faced by ECT and take notice of these demands, so that ECTs can perform their duties and responsibilities with heart and soul. In conclusion, I would like to draw the kind attention of Sindh Government and higher authorities to make service structure of ECT and promotion so that these meritorious and passionate teachers can serve nation with full enthusiasm and passion.
