The Single National Curriculum was first implemented for grades 1-5 in the provinces in 2021 and is scheduled for an extension to Grade 12 by 2023. When we talk about the standard of SNC, we find it pedagogically flawed, age-inappropriate, and with content of extremely poor quality.
Consider a few examples.
Justifying this decision does not have a convincing reason. This makes it impossible for disadvantaged children unfamiliar with the language to comprehend the subject.
How can they deal with it?
When we look at its other dimensions, we also find flaws in SNC. Parents were satisfied with SNC telling them repeatedly that the main focus of a single National curriculum is to introduce critical thinking and creative writing among the students.
In the Grade 3 English textbook, the use of conjunction and its types is given in the grammar section, which is beyond the capability of a student of class 3.
How can a student in grade 3 understand conjunction and its types?
These examples are just the tip of the iceberg, reflecting the intent of the SNC to make children virtuous via an overdose of morality. How does that premise square with the evidence after 40 years of the injection of morality into the curriculum by Ziaul Haq? The nation is not any more moral while becoming a lot more intolerant and violent.
