Being a citizen of Sindh, always faced transport issues since going to school, college, university and now for work. Despite being the nation’s economic centre, the city’s inhabitants lack a reliable transit infrastructure.
To cater for the needs of the public, the Sindh government passed the long-awaited Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Bill in 2016, and In the last year, Karachi’s citizens got what they were waiting for; the provincial government announced several mass transit projects and now we can see the latest buses in Karachi.
I appreciate the government’s initiative but are these projects accessible to all citizens? A Big No!
Modern, affordable, environment-friendly electric-bus service, Peoples’ Bus Service, Abdul Sattar Edhi project, Green Line, and Women specific buses have specific routes. However, none of them meets the demand of Baldia Town’s population of around 830,000.
There are still old-fashioned, overcrowded buses there, which gives people a sensation of being left behind or being mistreated. Is it fair enough?
